To implement the Food Safety Law and its implementation regulations, and intensify the management of the market access of health food products, the State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) organized the revision of Method for the Assessment of Antioxidative Function and other eight functional assessment methods for health food. The assessment methods, adopted by the Health Food Safety Expert Committee of SFDA, were issued recently. Since May 1, 2012, for the accepted health food registration applications, the health food registration testing institutions will carry out product functional assessment test based on the newly issued nine assessment methods.

The nine functional assessment methods are: Method for the Assessment of Antioxidative Function; Method for the Assessment of Protection of Gastric Mucosa Function; Method for the Assessment of Assisting Blood Sugar Reduction Function; Method for the Assessment of Alleviating Eye Fatigue Function; Method for the Assessment of Improving Nutritional Anaemia Function; Method for the Assessment of Assisting Blood Lipids Reduction Function; Method for the Assessment of Alleviating Lead Excretion Function; Method for the Assessment of Weight Control Function; Method for the Assessment of Clear the Throat Function.
